Body Image (BI) refers to how individuals perceive and feel about their bodies. In cancer patients and survivors, BI plays a crucial role in emotional well-being and health behaviors. Body dissatisfaction is often linked to depression, anxiety, and low self-esteem, while a positive BI supports treatment adherence and decisions, emotional resilience, and social well-being.
Research highlights the importance of internal bodily sensations, emotional regulation, and social support in shaping BI. However, while BI has been widely studied in eating disorders, there is limited research on how cancer patients and survivors experience and manage body image issues.
This Special Issues invites studies exploring BI in the oncology context, including its associations with emotions, cognition, behavior, and social relationships. Special attention is given to the decision-making process. We welcome original research, systematic reviews, and case reports that evaluate BI across all cancer stages and assess the effectiveness of interventions aimed at promoting a positive body image.
